Transgender Targeted Intervention (TG-TI) Project – Ghaziabad
This project is implemented in strict accordance with the guidelines of the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) and follows the principles outlined in the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019. The initiative empowers the transgender community in Ghaziabad by addressing their unique health challenges, social vulnerabilities, and rights-related needs, while fostering community ownership, social inclusion, and resilience.
Empowering the Transgender Community
Abhivyakti Foundation proudly implements the Transgender Targeted Intervention (TG-TI) project in Ghaziabad with the support of the Uttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (UPSACS). The project actively serves 828 transgender individuals, providing them with essential health services, social support, empowerment programs, and interventions aimed at reducing social vulnerability and enhancing dignity.
Our dedicated team of trained outreach workers and peer educators, drawn from the transgender community itself, ensures that interventions are culturally sensitive, inclusive, and responsive to real-life challenges. The program not only focuses on health outcomes but also strengthens social protection, legal awareness, community leadership, livelihood opportunities, and stigma reduction, ensuring holistic development.
Additionally, the program identifies and addresses barriers to healthcare access, experiences of violence and discrimination, and lack of family or community acceptance, creating a safe and enabling environment for transgender individuals.

Comprehensive Services
Healthcare Access Our project ensures that transgender individuals receive regular HIV, STI, and general health screenings, while linking beneficiaries to ART centers and counseling services. Guidance on hormone therapy, mental health support, and crisis intervention ensures holistic wellbeing. Services are delivered in trans-friendly, stigma-free environments, addressing barriers such as discrimination and lack of awareness among providers.
Social Protection Abhivyakti Foundation facilitates legal documentation including transgender ID cards, and support for name/gender changes. We assist beneficiaries in accessing social entitlements, emergency shelters, and legal aid for violence or discrimination cases. These interventions provide a sense of security, identity recognition, and equal opportunity for the transgender community.
Community Empowerment The project strengthens peer leadership, with trained community members conducting outreach, health education, and advocacy. Livelihood skill development programs and economic support improve financial independence. Support groups, cultural activities, and advocacy training build confidence, social cohesion, and self-representation among beneficiaries.
Stigma Reduction We actively implement sensitization programs for healthcare providers, community awareness campaigns, and family counseling sessions. Media advocacy and engagement with local authorities further reduce stigma, promote inclusion, and facilitate family and community acceptance of transgender individuals.
Addressing Program Gaps Previously, barriers such as limited awareness of health rights, inadequate legal documentation, family rejection, and economic vulnerability posed challenges. Through targeted interventions, these gaps have been addressed systematically, ensuring that beneficiaries receive comprehensive, rights-based, and culturally sensitive support.
Our Approach
The TG-TI project follows a community-led model, where transgender individuals are active participants in program design, implementation, and evaluation. Peer educators ensure interventions are locally relevant, culturally sensitive, and sustainable, fostering long-term impact. Continuous feedback loops allow adaptation to emerging needs, ensuring the program remains responsive, inclusive, and effective.
